Facebook 4-5-6... Take Notes!

Yes, some of you are still figuring out if a Facebook Fan Page will put all your personal information out there for all in the universe to find. Keep reading our posts about Facebook. Be assured that only people you "approve" as friends can view your personal page. Your Fan Page does not automatically share all your personal information.

For those of you who are now beyond beginner, American Express has an article by Matt Silverman sharing 5 Essential Apps for Your Business. For an example of an App--check out Creative Arts & Aging Network's Events Tab. (And RSVP to our The Arts for All Ages: A Creative Conversation while you're there!)

Creativity, Arts & Aging From One Little Link . . .

Take a minute and go grab a cup of coffee (or tea).  And maybe something to munch on too.  But come right back!

Settled in?  OK, let's do some exploring around the internet for interesting (and short) bits to read about creativity and aging.

Let's start with the latest PCACares News Bulletin which directs us to Poets of Dementia,
which in turn, sends us to More Silver Screen ... Plus a Few Good Books,
which then leads us to Goodbye, Spry Codgers. So Long, Feisty Crones,
which takes us to the end of this path--well worth it just to discover Aging Services of California's motto:
 Aging is an active verb.

Now, let's go back to Poets of Dementia and head off in another direction.
Let's follow the trail to A Novel Take on Assisted Living,
which leads us to Finding Activities for Parents With Memory Loss,
and we'll end up at 10 Ways to Work Out Your Brain in 5 Minutes or Less.

One more time, Poets of Dementia will lead us in yet another direction.  Finish up your cup of coffee with a nice, warm and fuzzy read My Mother's Watch.

Amazing where just one link can take.  Do you have any interesting links you want to share?  Send me your link in a Comment and I may use it here for another exploration.  Who know where your link will take us?

Arts & Creative Aging Across America

When an old person dies, it’s like a library goes up in flames.
—Unknown

Susan Perlstein's Arts and Creative Aging Across America may have been written eight years ago, but Susan's insights are still powerful today.  Susan Perlstein founded Elders Share the Arts (ESTA) in 1979 in New York City. In this article, Susan shares that it was in 1998 that the National Endowment for the Arts spurred her to put together a national organization dedicated to fostering an understanding of the vital relationship between creative expression and the quality of life of older people.  This became the National Center for Creative Aging.

If you want to hear more from Susan, go to Growing Bolder and listen to a short audio clip.  Thanks to the Community Arts Network  you can also read Generating Community Intergenerative Partnerships Through the Expressive Arts, the first chapter of a book Susan co-authored  in 1994.  Note: This is no longer available to read on Community Arts Network.

Take Notes! Social Media Is Not Gibberish - Part II

Still confused about Social Media and Social Networking?  Let me just give you this important piece of advice ...
... treat each venue as a way to connect with an audience that would care about you and your work.
Well, ok, that isn't actually my advice.  I "borrowed" it from Artist Luann Udell, who shared this very important tidbit in her post ALL THIS SOCIAL MEDIA and Still Nobody’s Asking Me to Dance.

You're an Aging Services Organization ... well, ok, more accurately, you work for an Aging Services Organization ...  Hopefully you've been Taking Notes and you've entered the world of Facebook.  Are you starting to understand a little more about Social Media as a way to connect and share what you're doing?
You're an Artist and sure, you're busy creating Art ... but, hopefully, you've also been Taking Notes and have at least created your Profile on Facebook.   Who better than to learn more about all this Social Media connecting and sharing "stuff" than from other Artists?
And remember, as an Organization Serving Older Adults or as an Artist, Social Media is just ... a way to connect with an audience that would care about you and your work.

Keep reading Friday's Take Notes! We'll start talking about Blogs in April.
